Faith

We are born into a faith which most of us follow till we pass away.We tend to believe that any action not fulfilling the tenets laid down in such faith is sinful. Thus we remain shackled to the ordains of our faith.
Is it essential for human survival to remain attached to our faiths linked to religions? We link all the faiths /religions to God & justify our actions dictated by our faiths .If God wanted these faiths why have them in multiple forms/names each with a different code of conduct. Why do we relate to faiths which are a few thousand years old while mankind is as old as perhaps the planet where we live in.
Do we need to follow any of these faiths for survival as a good human being ?
